I've totally blown it. My fabulous course, Embodied Wisdom, starts on Monday and I have only read one of the four required books and none of the recommended ones.
I admit, I got lost in Jung's Memories, Dreams, Reflections. Who wouldn't? After all, it is incredibly rich material.
As I've already written, Jung felt separated from normal people due to his direct experience of God and his intimate acquaintance with his No. 2. I think it is normal for teenagers to feel different, Jung's different was, well, on a whole different level. He felt despondent of ever fitting in, and yet, proud that he did not.
It took a while but this book has me hooked now - I'm loving this window onto Jung's development. I do find, however, that after an immersion of 50 or so pages I have to take a few days to ruminate over what I’ve read. Last weeks reading was no different, it has taken four days for me to feel like I can approach editing with a fresh perspective, I get so drawn in to his story and overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information and the detail.
I just had this float across my Facebook from the wonderful people at Spirituality and Practice. They are partnering with the Threshold Society and The Mevlevi order of Sufis, to present a 7-week online course studying the transformative poetry of Rumi and led by Sufi elders.
It is always a good day when I can walk into a bookstore, walk out with a mitt-ful of books, not have paid a cent, AND not have committed a crime.
Today was definitely one of those days. After missing the 9 p.m. closing time on Saturday - I swear it used to be open until 10 p.m. on weekends! - I dropped in today and picked up four new books.
In Tomorrow's God
It got me thinking about the difference between 'hearing' something and 'receiving' it. And whether either of those words has much, if anything, to do with 'listening'. So I thought I'd do a little research. Here's what I found.
Chapter's Four to Eight of Tomorrow's God
For me, going to Chapter's (or any other great book store - if only there were one in Newmarket) is a religious experience. I open the heavy wooden doors and enter the cavernous space - full of questions and searching, searching for the answers. Walking up to the shiny white computers, I nervously type in the keywords - author, title, topic - hoping against hope that they will actually have what I am looking for. Not this one, not that one. On and on it goes.
Heavily influenced by the GPC Economic Summit I was at this weekend, my new additions are mostly climate change, environment and politics themed.
