Finding Stillness at the Solstice

Finding Stillness in the Chaos and Feeling Joy

Finding Stillness at the Solstice

It's quiet and I'm alone in the early dark morning. I have my tea, I've meditated and journaled, and deeply, adoringly connected to Source.

It's a good morning even though my body woke me up at 4 a.m.

It refused to sleep one more minute.

Now don't get me wrong: I love my sleep. (And, yes, I do work with clients who have chronic sleep loss issues to get them a good night's sleep.)

But at this time of year my body is so excited to get out of bed and get going that I can't say no.

What am I so excited about?

This. This quiet. This darkness. This sacred, beautiful space that is created when the Christmas lights are glowing and music is softly playing and my world is wrapped in a cocoon of stillness.

We're less than a week away from the Solstice and the energy is building. Can you feel it? The shortest, darkest day of the year is coming upon us. The birth of the sun. The birth of the Son. Two joyous reasons for me to celebrate.

The energies pull at us. Can you feel it in your body?

The darkness asks us to go deeper inside, to get clear of anything that no longer serves us, to introspect, to be grateful, to relax into a simplicity and contentment that only comes with surrender to something more than our small ego plans. There is a strong yin, feminine energy at this time of the year. A softness in the midst of harsh weather. It calls to my soul to find rest.

And there is another energy, a brightness that is stirring underneath. It is time for the birth of the sun. The solar, masculine energy has been waning and losing strength over the last six months and on December 21st, the sun symbolically dies and is born again. A spark of hope in the darkness and a promise of the light to come.

I feel this energy too, it calls to me to create, to dream big, to build up my reserves and prepare for the return of the bright days of Spring. Now begins the time of year when we have the opportunity to sow new seeds, new dreams, new plans, and new ideas.

What do you want to create next year? What dreams are ready to be planted? What is ready to move from thought to form in your world?

Of course, for many of us, our energies are pulled far from contemplating our dreams and we're busily juggling family and shopping and cooking and, well, an endless To Do list to try and make everything perfect.

STOP.

I have a gift for you. I'm celebrating the publication of my first article for Aspire Magazine and in it I focus on transforming the holidays into a time of peace and joy. Please invest the time to read it and give the 3 exercises – or even just one of them! – a spin.
