Let The Busyness Wait

Last week I read “The Big Leap” by Gay Hendricks and one of the ideas that has grabbed me is Einstein Time.

Without going too far into quantum physics (because I want you all to stay awake!), one of Einstein’s ground-breaking ideas was the Theory of Relativity – the idea that, as the observer, I determine reality, including time. Hendricks has taken this idea and turned it into an easy way to understand ‘flow-time’ or why sometimes it takes *forever* for something to happen.

And then today, one of my favouritest clients sent me this beautiful blog by Ann Voskamp about how we have to MAKE time and space for what matters to us. In spite of the busy-ness, because of the busy-ness, we have to be intentional about where we put our attention and what we prioritize.

When was the last time you caught yourself complaining about time:

– There’s never enough time

– Argh! It takes too much time!

– I can never seem to be on time.

– If only the day had 3 or 5 or 15 more hours… THEN I would get done what I needed to get done.

Hendricks gently challenges us to let go of being a VICTIM to time and realize that we are the MASTERS of our own time. We are the ones who make or lose time.

There is ALWAYS enough time to get done what needs to be done.

There is ALWAYS the same amount of time that is given to each person alive. We get to choose what to do with our time.

There will never be enough time to do the things you really don’t want to do and there will always be enough time to do the things you love.

Today I’m doing very little work because the youngest has a PA Day. He’s in Grade 11 and while he doesn’t NEED my constant attention (like a toddler would), I’m very aware that in a year and half he will be out the door and off to great adventures like his older brother and sister.

When I am on my death-bed I don’t want my big regret to be that I did not invest enough time in my kids or my spouse or my friends or my loves.

So I stopped. We made french toast. Then we played Quibbler (fantastic game by the way! It’s like Scrabble but with cards!).

I will MAKE the time.

The busy-ness can wait.
