Your nervous system still thinks $60K is a ‘great salary’…

First-order change keeps you functional… until it doesn’t. Third-order change makes you Sovereign.
And when it comes to updating our most ancient money stories, like the belief that $60K is a high enough salary to live on, first-order change just doesn’t cut it.
Most coaching is 1st order change – a little more here, a little less there. We gently nudge up against the edge of our current Comfort Zone to see if we can wring out a little bit more of what we already have.
And a lot of the time it works. More of this and less of that is often what will keep us winning.
First order change makes your life better and keeps everything pretty even keel… until it doesn’t.
I work with women who’ve been “keeping it together” their whole lives… and then, one day, their coping strategies stop working.
Why? Because midlife is a portal, and a more powerful version of who you’re meant to be starts knocking. And she won’t tolerate the compromises you’ve made.
That’s when our work begins.
That’s why I don’t expect my clients to be perfect when they start working with me… if everything were working well, you wouldn’t need me.
It’s because what used to work isn’t working anymore that you’re looking for solutions… solutions that you can’t hack your way through from Google searches.
Solutions that I’ve developed over my 15 years of full-time nervous system coaching.
In the beginning, I observe who you are as you move through your life. What’s working … and what’s definitely not. Together, we work through the surface level issues and knock out some quick wins as we get down to where the real work needs to happen.
Because there are levels to change:
1st order change is tweaking the dial. Better boundaries. Better habits. A cleaner schedule. Less doom-scrolling. More water. You feel better. Life improves.
This is the annoying bullshit you hear from social media and, far too often, your Dr. when you’re in perimenopause and menopause. “Oh! Your joints are screaming… have you tried yoga and probiotics?”
It’s the kind of change that makes my midlife-ish clients fill with rage as their very real concerns are dismissed and belittled. And, again, it works until it doesn’t. It works until what’s really needed – deep change – is the only option.
2nd order change is changing the strategy. The system. The pattern underneath the pattern. This is where “I should be able to handle this” tweaking gets replaced with “I need to take 2 years off to recover from burnout and rebuild my entire life differently.”
3rd order change is when you become more of who you’re meant to be and that change, changes your whole world. It also freaks out your Parts and pushes you so far past your lifelong Comfort Zones that you have to create a new equilibrium and a new way of BEing in the world.
I bet you guessed that 3rd order change is my favourite. It takes time. It’s scary. But it’s so worth it. 🥰
And yes… this includes money.
Have you ever had a thought kinda like, “If I could just make $60K in my business, then I’ll be okay?”
(or 30K or any number less than 6-figures)
Two things.
First… I’m genuinely curious where we all got the $60K number from.
Second… it’s frickin’ 2026 and after taxes, $60K is not nearly enough to pay expenses and build retirement wealth.
This is where Sovereignty gets real. Where we’re called to own our power and step into realms we never thought were for us.
I’ve been noodling about what we *should* be making vs what we *think* we should be making and here’s what made me laugh out loud, and also want to batter my head against the wall.
Using the Bank of Canada inflation calculator, $60,000 in January 1980 is $236,842 in January 2026.
Just
breathe
that
in…
$236,842.
If your nervous system has been clinging to $60K as a magic safety number… there’s a decent chance it’s carrying a 1980s template.
Us Gen-X and elder millennial ladies heard “$60K is a great salary” when we were young’uns and we never got the inflation memo.
Fuuuuuuucccccckkkkkkkk… and it gets worse:
Notice what your body does when you read $120K.
Or $180K.
Or $250K.
Do you feel the gasp in your chest?
The sizzle in your cheeks?
The ‘holy sh*t, that can’t be right – that can’t be for me!’
That response is information. Valuable data.
Breathe it. Let it sit in your nervous system.
A big part of the “good girl” operating system is staying small enough to be approved of.
Staying reasonable. Staying grateful.
Non-threatening. Inoffensive.
And money is one of the places that programming still bites hardest.
Third-order change asks you to go far enough to the edge of your Comfort Zone that your brain, your Parts, your inner demonic cheerleading squad, starts fighting back.
Of course it does.
Your Parts don’t hate you. They’re not “blocks.” They are guardians of safety and the status quo. A $60K salary? That is safe. That is status quo. They don’t know that it’s not 1980 anymore. So when you start aiming at a number that actually matches the world you live in now, they will have opinions. Strong opinions.
Ferociously defended opinions that make so much sense and seem so freakin’ reasonable:
“What will they think?”
“Who do you think you are?”
“What will your husband think?”
M’loves, this is the work.
We don’t smash through that edge with hustle. We don’t ‘positive mindset’ our way into higher capacity. We build a new structure that can hold more without collapsing and retreating back to safety.

Sovereignty is not just “I deserve it” as an affirmation.
It’s “I am a professional, my work is valuable, and I AM the woman who can hold luscious abundance.”
If you want eyes on your current money thermostat, your pricing, and the specific “good girl” rules your nervous system is still obeying… that’s Discovery Session territory.
Come, tell me the real conversation happening inside of you.
Your revolution and abundance are waiting.
You are worth so much more than a $60K salary. 😘
